The U.S. Forest Service, Forest Products Lab, has awarded APA—The Engineered Wood Assn. $331,000 to support several residential construction programs. The programs build on the successful Carbon Challenge design competition and seminars that were completed earlier this year and are designed to educate builders and designers about environmentally friendly, single-family house designs using structural wood panels and engineered wood products.
Activities will include an urban demonstration project in Baltimore, Md.; phase two of the Carbon Challenge program in Florida, including partnership with a national production builder to adopt wood wall and floor systems; a demonstration project in the Western U.S. featuring wood structural wall systems and a series of seminars in targeted markets focused on cost effective, energy efficient wood wall systems.
