Timber Processing Person of the Year
Timber Processing magazine will announce its 32nd annual Person of the Year award in the combined January-February issue. The 2020 Person of the Year will be featured in the issue, and will receive the award plaque during the Timber Processing & Energy Expo to be held September 30 to October 2 at the Portland Exposition Center in Portland, Oregon.
The award involves two primary criteria: leadership in one’s company, and leadership in industry-at-large.
Last year’s recipient was Red Emmerson of Sierra Pacific Industries, based in Anderson, California. The very first recipient in 1989 was Duane Vaagen of Vaagen Brothers Lumber in Colville, Washington. Prior to Emmerson, in 2018 Tommy Battle of Battle Lumber in Wadley, Georgia took home the honor.

Robbins Lumber Lists Hancock Sawmill Site For Sale
Robbins Lumber has listed its 100-acre sawmill complex in Hancock, Maine for sale with a price of $2.5 million. This site was acquired from Pleasant River Lumber in 2023 by Robbins. Included in the property sale are kilns, a planer mill, truck scale and a 42,000 sq. ft. sawmill with an attached machine shop. The property also includes a fully leased apartment building.
Roseburg Names Orozco To Direct Strategic Business
Roseburg has annouced that Nadine Orozco has been promoted to Director of Strategic Business Development. She has served as manager of strategic business development since 2022, and has been deeply involved in key company projects, including the recent sale of Roseburg’s Simsboro, La., particleboard plant to Kronospan and the company’s historic $700 million investment in Oregon manufacturing.
Kalesnikoff Announces New Mass Timber Plant
Kalesnikoff Mass Timber announced it will build a $34 million mass timber facility in West Kootenays, British Columbia. It will create up to 90 jobs.
Hoffman Companies Acquires Besse Forest Products Group
The Hoffmann Family of Companies (HFOC), a Florida-based family-owned private equity firm, has acquired Besse Forest Products Group, the longstanding Michigan-based family-run company with 10 manufacturing facilities, including four sawmills, a lumber drying concentration yard, four veneer mills and a cut-to-size plywood mill.
