A sawmill will reopen in Saratoga in December with a new owner and more than 80 new job opportunities.
The mill, now known as Saratoga Forest Management, was purchased by Gary Ervin of Oregon in April 2011.
Bob Jensen, CEO of the Wyoming Business Council, said an employee has been working with officials in Carbon County to open the mill. “We’ve been trying to figure out if there’s a way to open that mill for over a year,” he said. “We’re going to continue to work with owners to assist them and put the property back to work.”
He said the Business Council is happy about the new mill and what it will do for the local economy. “We’re very excited that it will reopen at this point,” he said.
The mill is set to open Dec. 15 and will create about 80 jobs in the mill and 40 to 50 positions for loggers. Ervin said he plans to hire all the local workers he can.
