Aggressive wood fuel pellet manufacturer-exporter Enviva LP has increased the announced capacity of the pellet plant it has under construction in Ahoskie, NC. The plant’s productive potential has been elevated by 50,000 metric tons per year to 350,000. Using hardwood, the facility is expected to be in production by the end of this year.
Earlier this year Enviva said it is developing sites for two additional pellet plants in the Mid-Atlantic area—likely NC and Virginia—and in early May signaled that it is searching for yet another site in either Mississippi or Alabama. These plants would in theory open in late 2012 and 2013, respectively. The company currently operates two pellet plants in Mississippi.
