Georgia-Pacific Holds Pineland Ribbon Cutting

Georgia-Pacific representatives along with local elected officials and many others gathered in mid-June to celebrate the previous-announced major expansion of its Pineland sawmill. Lumber Division President Fritz Mason was on hand to cut the ribbon of the largest sawmill in the southern U.S. after the expansion and improvement project in Pineland, with an expected annual capacity of 450 MMBF.

The mill, which has been in operation for over 100 years, has had $120 million invested by the company. The project was announced in September of 2021 and work began in early 2022. BID Group received the order from GP for the new sawmill. BID managed, designed, built, and provided full startup services.

Improvements at the mill included: Replacing the existing stud mill; replacing the existing high-speed planer, continuous dry kiln; expanded log storage yard with a new debarking and processing line. These machinery improvements have translated to increased available log truck deliveries from 250 to 300 per day, as well as an output jump from 380 MMBF to 450 MMBF annually.
