Lumber manufacturer Canfor Southern Pine announced Wednesday plans to expand its existing production facility in Horry County.
The $3.6 million investment is expected to generate 56 new jobs.
Canfor plans to install a continuous kiln system to increase its lumber-drying capacity by 50%, according to a news release. The expansion is expected to be complete by mid-July.
The company chose the Palmetto State to expand its operations because of the quality of workforce, said Canfor’s human resources director Debbie Sand. “We have been pleased with the quality of the employees and low turnover rates in Horry County,” she said.
The Canadian company has operated in Horry County since March 2006, when it acquired locally owned New South Cos. Canfor supplies companies such as Lowes and Home Depot with lumber stock.
