Grande Prairie’s Canfor sawmill recently received a capital investment grant from the Canfor Corporation in the amount of $15 million to perform some necessary upgrades to the facility.
The planned work includes upgrades in controls and technology as well as equipment modifications, in order to enhance efficiency and productivity at the local mill.
“The capital will be used to modernize the mill systems, including scanners, optimization and controls, along with equipment modifications,” said Corrine Stavness, manager, public affairs and corporate communications for Canfor in an email. “This will allow the mill to balance production levels between the sawmill and planer and increase the overall efficiency of the mill.”
The investment, she added, demonstrates the corporation’s view of the Grande Prairie mill as a significant contributor to local economy. “An expenditure of this magnitude reflects Canfor’s confidence in our Grande Prairie operation,” she said.
The investment also shows the corporation’s confidence in the Alberta forestry sector, particular in the Grande Prairie area, as well as ensures that the company can produce quality products for customers.
