The timber market is on the rebound and the owners of Bennett Lumber Products aren’t wasting any time, they’re looking to hire dozens of people later this year.
They plan to have between 60 and 70 employees after a five-year closure at the local mill. Wood is now coming in from all different areas in preparation to get both the sawmill and planer up and running.
Bennett Lumber Vice President Brett Bennett said they’re excited to get the mill reopened. “We have never intended to sell it off,” said Bennett. “We’ve had a lot of opportunities, we have had the Chinese come up and take a run at us for awhile but we always just intended to mothball it until the economy rebounded.”
The mill will start with only one shift at first, and ease into further growth down the road. Bennett said technology is key and they’re ready to update whatever’s needed to be competitive.
